People come to therapy for a variety of reasons: struggles with anxiety or depression, low self-esteem, relationship problems, loss, life changes and a host of others. Feeling “stuck” and uncertain about how to move forward is a common and often painful experience. I can help you to more clearly identify your concerns and work with you to uncover patterns in thinking, behaving and relating that no longer serve you well. Therapy can be challenging, no doubt, but the potential gains are great. The result is a deepened self-awareness and the capacity to make choices that are more consistent with your needs and goals. You may build more satisfying relationships, put an end to self-defeating behaviors and better manage life’s inevitable stress. The development of practical strategies to cope with these difficulties can be an important part of this work.
A positive, productive therapy experience requires strong trust, openness and commitment on the part of both the therapist and client. I strive to provide a space free of judgment and conducive to free expression. My style is warm, interactive, flexible and collaborative. I find that a “one size fits all” approach to therapy is not one that honors the uniqueness of each person’s life experience. My approach, therefore, is tailored to the individual. While I have been trained primarily in psychodynamic (insight-oriented) therapy, I incorporate other techniques (such as cognitive behavioral therapy or mindfulness) when appropriate.
